- November 1, 2019:Open Enrollment starts — first day you can enroll, re-enroll, or change a 2019 insurance plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
- December 15, 2019:Last day to enroll in or change a 2020 health plan. After this date, you can enroll or change plans only if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
- January 1, 2020:2020 coverage starts for those who enroll or change plans by December 15.
More About the Marketplace
On October 1, 2013, the Health Insurance Marketplace became a new way for individuals, families and small businesses to get health insurance. The Marketplace gives you more choice and control over your health insurance options and is designed to help you find affordable health insurance.
You are able to get information about all the plans available in Maine by going to the Marketplace web site. You are able to enroll yourself, directly through the website, or call a toll-free phone hotline.
If you don’t have health insurance, many community organizations In Eastern Maine have staff available to help educate citizens about their options and help them get enrolled.
If you already have insurance – through an employer, Medicare, and Medicaid, you don’t need to worry. However, the marketplace is a new way to buy health insurance that lets you compare the plans to find more affordable options.
Many people are now be able to get a break on the costs of insurance. Depending on your annual income, financial help is available to individuals purchasing a plan through the Marketplace. People who could never afford coverage may now be eligible for free or low-cost insurance at a monthly premium that fits their household budget.
