Education

As one of only 59 designated “Teaching Health Centers” in the United States, PCHC is committed to education. We offer three residency programs, training the next generation of healthcare professionals in the future interprofessional healthcare delivery system.

PCHC’s Pharmacy Practice Residencies

Penobscot Community Health Care (PCHC) offers two Pharmacy Residency Programs. The PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency Program provides structured and advanced training to prepare pharmacists for a successful career in ambulatory and community settings, faculty positions, or further PGY2 fellowship training.  The PGY2 in Health-System Pharmacy Administration offers longitudinal practice experiences to prepare its graduates to become highly-skilled leaders and advocates for our profession, well-equipped managers and supervisors, and future pharmacy administrators and directors.

PCHC provides the unique capability to engage residents in the ambulatory care setting as a Patient-Centered Medical Home, in addition to the traditional community pharmacy setting. As an Accountable Care Organization (ACO), PCHC offers its residents a comprehensive learning environment to become practice leaders in our changing health care environment. Established in 2011 with a single PGY1 resident, the residency program has grown to three PGY1 positions and two PGY2 positions for 2015-2016. Both the PGY1 and PGY2 programs are ASHP-accredited.
