The Theresa Knowles Medical Assistant Training Academy is an earn‑as‑you‑learn program for current PCHC employees interested in advancing into a Medical Assistant role. Created in honor of Theresa Knowles – a respected clinician, mentor, and healthcare leader- the program reflects PCHC’s commitment to workforce development and high‑quality patient care. Program Highlights
- Paid, cohort‑based training for eligible PCHC employees
- Online coursework combined with hands‑on skills labs
- Supervised clinical experience and shadowing
- Support from experienced preceptors and training staff
Participants gain the knowledge and real‑world experience needed to succeed as a Medical Assistant. Upon successful completion, graduates are prepared to sit for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national certification exam and transition into MA roles within PCHC.

Dental Assisting On‑the‑Job Training (DA OJT)
The Dental Assisting On‑the‑Job Training (DA OJT) Program is a hands‑on, earn‑as‑you‑learn pathway designed to prepare individuals for a career in dental assisting. No prior experience required.
Program Highlights
- Blended learning model with online coursework, classroom instruction, and hands‑on labs
- Supervised clinical experience in PCHC dental practices
- Instruction and mentorship from experienced Dental Assistants and providers
- Curriculum approved by the Maine Board of Dental Practice
- Eligibility to apply for State of Maine Dental Radiography licensure upon completion
Participants are supported throughout the program by clinical leaders, preceptors, and the Training, Education, and Development (TED) team. Graduates are prepared to transition into Dental Assistant roles within PCHC, helping expand access to safe, high‑quality dental care.
