Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse Receives Supportive Education Program Grant from Baer Foundation

We are pleased to announce that the Sidney R. Baer, Jr. Foundation has awarded Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse $50,000 for its Supported Education Program. The Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse Supported Education Program offers academic, financial, and social support to help clubhouse members continue with or return to school or other programs.

The program will address the full spectrum of members’ educational aspirations, from learning to read to obtaining an advanced degree. Need for the Supported Education Program was determined by the increasing number of members, especially young adults, who identify education as a primary goal of Clubhouse membership.

Carrie Lyn Lemos, OTR/L, Executive Director, Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse, states, “Nelson Mandela once said ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.’ We want to be able to give our members as many tools as possible to change the world.  This grant will allow more of our members these opportunities.”

About Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse
Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse, a Clubhouse International accredited program, owned by Penobscot Community Health Care, successfully addresses the devastating impact of serious mental illness. Located at 30 Summer Street, Bangor, it opened in 2012 with the belief that people living with mental illness can be active participants in their own and each other’s recovery. Each year, over 200 members come to Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse to contribute their talents, learn new skills, access opportunities and forge new friendships.

Lack of preventive care is an epidemic among people with serious mental illness, resulting in a life expectancy in the United States that is 25 years shorter than the national average. In 2016, Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse will expand to include a Wellness Center in order to promote healthy diets and exercise and to reduce obesity, smoking and diabetes rates within our membership. The expansion will also include increased space focusing on employment and education and increase our capabilities to serve the Bangor population.
