Expanded Walk-In Care Services to Better Meet Patient Needs

Penobscot Community Health Care (PCHC) is pleased to announce that Walk-In Care Services at Helen Hunt Health Center, 242 Brunswick Street, Old Town, are now better than ever thanks to a recent expansion and renovation of the space, as well as the addition of new acute care staff.

“We’re always looking for new ways to better serve our patients,” said Susan Cheff, MD, Medical Director, Helen Hunt Health Center. “In order to better take care of the Old Town community, we recognized that we needed to grow the footprint of our walk-in care services by adding exam rooms and expanding the waiting room as well as hiring additional medical clinicians to increase access to care.”

Walk-In Services at Helen Hunt Health Center are staffed 7-days per week by highly-qualified clinicians who provide quality acute medical care, including urgent visits and treatment of non-emergency conditions, for both PCHC patients and non-PCHC patients alike.

“Walk In Care is generally faster and less expensive than the Emergency Department, making it a better option in many cases,” explained Cheff.  “However, patients are urged to go directly to the Emergency Department or call 911 if they are experiencing chest pain, shortness of breath, signs of a stroke, seizures, alcohol or drug overdoses, or any life-threatening emergency.”

Helen Hunt Health Center offers Walk-In Care, Monday – Friday 8 am to 8 pm and Saturday, Sunday, and most holidays 9 am to 4 pm.
