PCHC Named Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality in Healthcare Equality Index 2014
PCHC has been recognized as a “Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality” for the fourth year in a row in the Healthcare Equality Index, an annual survey conducted by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality. PCHC earned top marks for its commitment to equitable, inclusive care for LGBT patients and their families, who can face significant challenges in securing adequate healthcare.
Kenneth Schmidt, MPA, President and CEO states, “PCHC is committed to ensuring access to high quality health care for all persons and is proud of the inclusive care our staff provides to the LGBT community.”
PCHC was one of a select group of 426 healthcare facilities nationwide to be named Leaders in LGBT Healthcare Equality and the only healthcare facility in Maine to achieve the status by meeting all key criteria. Facilities awarded this title meet key criteria for equitable care, including non-discrimination policies for LGBT patients and employees, a guarantee of equal visitation for same-sex partners and parents, and LGBT health education for key staff members.
