PCHC Goes Over the Edge for Kids!
More Than 70 People Rappel off Hollywood Casino
Second annual “Over the Edge” fundraiser supports children’s mental health
BANGOR – Penobscot Community Health Care (PCHC) for the second year in a row has partnered with Over the Edge, giving people the opportunity to rappel off of one of Bangor’s tallest buildings. This year, that building was Hollywood Casino’s hotel, about 100 feet tall with views of the Penobscot River and Downtown Bangor.
“Standing on top of Hollywood Casino gives you an idea of just how intimidating and thrilling 100 feet really is,” said Lori Dwyer, President & CEO of PCHC. “More than 70 people challenged themselves to scale the wall last Saturday, and, despite the best efforts of the remains of Hurricane Dorian, we had an absolutely amazing day – filled with rapelling, dancing, adrenaline, and exuberance – for a fantastic cause!”
The event took place on a morning when Bangor experienced some light wind and rain. Even with the weather conditions, more than 70 people experienced the thrill of the rappel and raised more than $75,000 so far for PCHC’s new Center for Pediatric Care, which is scheduled to open this fall. People interested in donating to participants can still do so through September 15 at www.oteBangor.com.
“The Bangor community through the 2019 Community Health Needs Assessment process clearly identified mental health care for kids as a serious gap and a top priority in terms of community need,” said Dwyer. “PCHC is working to improve access to mental and preventive health care services by opening this expanded center. This fundraiser is a big part of making it become a reality and we are looking forward to opening the doors to the public this fall.”
