PCHC to Open State-of-the-Art Infusion Center
Penobscot Community Health Care (PCHC) is proud to announce plans for a forthcoming opening of a state of the art infusion center at Penobscot Community Health Center, 1012 Union Street, Bangor. The infusion therapy center is expected to be open to everyone in the community, not just existing PCHC patients, by July 23, 2018. PCHC’s infusion center will provide a comprehensive spectrum of non-oncology infusion therapy in a convenient, outpatient setting.
For PCHC President and CEO, Lori Dwyer, the decision to provide infusion therapy was a no-brainer. “We kept hearing a consistent message that there was a need for low-cost infusions. All too often, patients are paying too much out-of-pocket to receive their required infusion therapy. We did the research and determined we could provide more convenient, affordable infusion therapy in the outpatient setting, while delivering a best-in-class patient experience.”
As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), PCHC’s mission is to improve health outcomes for our patients and to build healthy communities regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. PCHC will be the first FQHC in the country to offer infusions. “Offering infusion therapy services adds to the over 20 current healthcare services provided by PCHC and gives us another opportunity to serve our patients and our mission. We are excited and proud to be taking such an innovative step,” Dwyer said.
PCHC will partner with OI Infusion Services, a New Hampshire-based infusion center management company, to help offer these services to patients. Dwyer stated, “When we started thinking about offering infusions, it became clear early on that managing the infusion process ourselves would be very complicated. For this reason, we partnered with the OI Infusion team to handle everything infusion-related. By offering infusions at Penobscot Community Health Center in Bangor, we are in keeping with our mission to provide convenient access to exceptional medical care, at the most affordable rates around. Our partnership with OI Infusion deepens our commitment.”
