Lawrence Smith, MD, Certified as Medical Director In Long Term Care
Penobscot Community Health Care (PCHC) is pleased to announce that Lawrence Smith, MD, PCHC Community Care and Geriatrics Medical Director, has earned certification as Medical Director in Long Term Care from the Board of Directors of the American Medical Directors Certification Program (AMDCP). The Certified Medical Director in Long Term Care Program was created to enhance the profession of medical direction throughout the long term care continuum and to reinforce the leadership role of the medical director in providing quality care. Dr. Smith currently oversees PCHCs Community Care and Geriatrics whose team of 20 clinicians provide care for many of the region’s nursing homes, as well as medical care in assisted living facilities and homes.

Dr. Smith received both his undergraduate degree and his Doctorate of Medicine from Ohio State University, followed by residency training at Eastern Maine Medical Center, and has been practicing since 1987. Dr. Smith currently serves as Medical Director for a number of area nursing homes and was founder and lead family physician at Winterport Family Practice prior to joining Penobscot Community Health Care. Dr. Smith is Board Certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians and is certified as a Medical Director by the American Medical Directors Association, in addition to being AMDCP Certified as Certified Medical Director in Long Term Care.
