Seaport Community Health Center Opens On-Site Pharmacy
Seaport Community Health Center (SCHC), a practice of Penobscot Community Health Care (PCHC), is excited to announce the addition of an on-site full-scale pharmacy to its practice at 53 Schoodic Drive in Belfast (on the athenaHealth campus). The pharmacy is open to patients and the community Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm and Tuesday 8:30am – 7:30pm, and is staffed by Melissa Carr, RPh, Pharmacist-in-Charge. Ms. Carr received her degree in Pharmacy from Northeastern University and has a combined 13 years of experience in clinical and retail pharmacy, most recently as managing pharmacist for a local retail pharmacy.
Seaport currently offers integrative medicine, behavioral health, expanded hours (evenings and weekends), and physical therapy, so the addition of pharmacy is certainly aligned with its integrated model of patient-centered care. Patients now have the convenience of filling their prescriptions in the same place they receive care. Having on-site pharmacy is also expected to decrease waiting time, promote direct communication between your doctor and the pharmacist, and improve patient safety by having a consulting pharmacist on staff. All major insurances are accepted and a Prescription Assistance Plan is available for those who need it.
PCHC hosts the only pharmacies among Maine’s 19 Federally Qualified Health Centers and has four pharmacies embedded in its practices at Penobscot Community Health Center, Helen Hunt Health Center, Brewer Medical Center, and now Seaport Community Health Center that fill over 100,000 prescriptions per year. PCHC’s Pharmacy Department has been recognized as a leading practice site nationally for its 340B program and is host to a Residency Program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the American Pharmacists Association.
