Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse to Host Musical Fundraiser
BANGOR – Melodies for the Mind, a musical event to benefit Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 10 at the Hampden Academy Performing Arts Center (PAC). The inaugural fundraiser will be held on World Mental Health Day, a day that aims to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world, while mobilizing efforts in support of mental health. This musical event is designed for the public to learn more about mental illness while enjoying live music.
“Mental illness is invisible to many, but has a tremendous impact on a person’s life,” said Lori Dwyer, President and CEO of PCHC. “World Mental Health Day is a day for all of us to work to raise awareness of it, but to also let anyone who is suffering quietly know that they are not alone, and there are services available to help.”
Melodies for the Mind is a concert to benefit Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse, a psychosocial rehabilitation program offering those with mental illness opportunities for employment, education and wellness. The evening will include the stylings of Maine Street R&B Revue and the Retro Rockerz, as well as a special performance by Unlimited Solutions Colleagues. The following is a first-hand account regarding Unlimited Solutions Clubhouse from one of its members: “For so many years, I was merely existing. Plagued by a number of chronic illnesses along with depression that seldom lifted, I found myself very isolated for five long years. My health was deteriorating. I had next to no self-confidence or self-worth. I decided to take a risk and finally walked through the doors of Clubhouse. I started attending for forty hours a week just to keep myself out of trouble. What did that lead to? I started learning a ton of job skills! I worked side by side with my peers and felt a part of a community! I started working on my overall wellness, paying close attention to my nutrition and physical activity! I felt welcome from day one and valued immediately. I was surrounded by positive influences who taught me how to see my worth. I started setting goals: lots of them! Today, just over a year into this journey, I am physically in the best shape of my adult life. I have returned to college full-time and I am working two different part-time jobs. Clubhouse has helped me to build my confidence and enabled me to look in the mirror and know I have created a life for myself that is full of surprises and new adventures, and one that I look forward to living each day that I wake up!”
